Ingredients

  • 4 tilapia fillets, 6 oz each
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

Method

  1. Pat tilapia fillets dry with paper towels and arrange on a clean cutting board. Mix smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and sea salt in a small bowl, then divide the spice mixture evenly across both sides of each fillet.
  2. Combine olive oil, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and minced garlic in a small cup. Brush this marinade generously over the seasoned fillets and let them sit for 5 minutes while your grill reaches medium-high heat (around 400°F).
  3. Oil your grill grates using a folded paper towel dipped in neutral oil to prevent sticking. When the grates are hot, carefully place tilapia skin-side down and cook for 6-7 minutes without moving the fillets.
  4. The flaky smoky grilled tilapia family recipe requires gentle handling, so use a thin fish spatula to carefully flip each fillet only once. Cook the other side for 4-5 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 145°F.
  5. Top each fillet with a small pat of butter and a thin lemon slice during the final minute of cooking. Fresh parsley and additional lemon wedges make excellent final garnishes right before serving.
