Ingredients

  • 12 beef franks
  • 1 sheet thawed puff pastry
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon plain yogurt

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Thaw your puff pastry sheet at room temperature for about 30 minutes until you can unfold it without tearing. Pat your beef franks dry with paper towels because moisture is the enemy of crispy pastry.
  2. Lay your pastry flat and cut it into 12 strips roughly 1 inch wide and 6 inches long. I use a pizza cutter and it takes literally 2 minutes instead of struggling with a knife. Wrap each strip around a frank, sealing the seam by pressing gently with your fingers.
  3. Place wrapped franks seam-side down on your prepared baking sheet, leaving about an inch between each one. Mix together melted butter, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and black pepper in a small bowl. Brush this mixture generously over each wrapped frank, making sure to coat all the pastry edges.
  4. Drizzle the beaten egg over each one using a pastry brush or just your fingers (mine works fine). This creates that beautiful golden-brown exterior and helps the pastry puff up evenly. Sprinkle cheddar cheese on top of each frank if your family loves extra flavor.
  5. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until the pastry is golden brown and puffed. Don't panic if they look pale after 20 minutes because they need that full time to crisp up properly. I've made the mistake of pulling them out early, and they were still soft inside the wrap.
  6. While they're baking, whisk together honey and yogurt for a quick dipping sauce that's absolutely addictive. The sweetness from honey balances the savory franks perfectly, and yogurt adds creaminess without heaviness. Drizzle this over warm pigs in blanket family kids right before serving for extra wow factor.
